I’m going to stick with it this time around, I’ve had problems doing this before — I know.

It’s a new year and we’re already a month in. Times flyin’. Gotta get started.

Here’s some new Animal Collective off their recent Merriweather Post Pavillion album released a few weeks ago. And I’m throwing on one of my favorite My Morning Jacket songs as well.

Let’s face it, instrumental albums flop a lot. It all depends on who’s making it. The Beastie Boys’ 2007 album “The Mix-Up” ended up winning the Grammy for “Best Pop Instrumental Album.”

So Peter Bjorn & John (that’s a mouthful to type, try it) are going this route with their next album, Seaside Rock, due out September 23rd. Here’s a sample of it. I dig the little shuffling sound they have throughout the sound. Sounds kind of like a bunch of marbles all falling at once on to wooden floors.

Fleet Foxes self-titled album Fleet Foxes has got to be one of the most moving albums I’ve heard in a long time. The band has a sound like no other. And I find myself randomly getting their songs stuck in my head when I’m around nature. Kind of a like a sneaky fox. Or foxes. Maybe even, Fleet Foxes. In all seriousness, if you haven’t heard anything from this band yet, download this song. And check out some of their other stuff. “Ragged Wood” is another good choice for a sample of Fleet Foxes’ sound.

I’m not sure how many people get NPR’s All Songs Considered podcast, but it’s certaintly a music-finding gem. For the most part, they do a pretty good job of evenly spreading out to different indie genres of music. Or at least I feel they do.

Anyways, this week they played this song from the band, the Broken West. And I really like it. I did a quick iTunes search and found their music in a bunch of “Greg’s Anatomy OMGGG Season 3 PLAYLIST LIKE OMG” iMixes. Based on that, I’m guessing they’re not really all that unknown. But whatever. Besides that. They’ve got a new album coming out September 9th (The day after the Cold War Kids Loyalty To Loyalty comes out) called Now Or Heaven. I’m going to watch for a few more tracks to come out but so far I like the sound, it reminds me of Shout Out Louds – minus the Swedish vocals.

I’ve never really been a huge fan of Shiny Toy Guns, so my background knowledge on them as a band fails to amount to much of anything. I know they have a unique sound and that their past songs “Le Disko” and “You Are The One” from their album We Are Pilots kicked ass.

Kings Of Leon’s Only By The Night

About two weeks back, Kings of Leon released two new songs from their upcoming September 23rd album, Only By the Night . The two tracks, “Crawl” and “Sex On Fire” have picked up a lot of steam on other music-blog websites, but with little mention of how much this band has progressed through the past 5 years. From their first album Youth & Young Manhood to their most recent 2007 Because Of The Times, they’ve moved from raw-southern rock to polished, bluesy southern rock. Lead singer Caleb Followill has said that taking pain relieving drugs during the making of OBTN has helped him write “the best songs of his career.” I’m predicting the indie-rock jam of the summer with this song

Lykke Li debut album

Indie pop newcomer Lykke Li from Stockholm, Sweden has been making a lot of buzz lately. Mostly over her debut full-length album, Youth Novels, due out tomorrow August 19th. Li definitely has a thing for soft vocals, and catchy little percussions. Her debut looks to be a very refreshing pop album with a similar sound to that of a more international-sounding jazz-infused Feist.
